Access Guide: Navigating for Success! In the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the phrase “to enable the child to be involved in and make progress in the general education curriculum ..." appears several times. Many parents and teachers WANT to help their students access the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum, but are not sure just HOW to do so. The Louisiana Department of Education has developed The Access Guide, a website of resources to help facilitate access to the general curriculum for struggling learners, students with mild to very serious disabilities, and advanced learners. The site addresses a wide spectrum of student needs and educator expertise. Participants will learn to navigate key sections of the website and how the information can be used to support students.

Making Sure They’re Gonna LOVE Your Kid! A kid-specific newsletter can be a very effective communication tool. School personnel often only have access to traditional records – eligibility documentation, IEP goals and objectives, modifications and therapy reports. Those records don’t always give the full picture of who the child really IS. A newsletter can help others get to know your child for who he or she is and not just for his or her disability! At this workshop, you’ll get the tools to create a wonderful, useful document to make, take & share. Limited Seating!

IEP Boot Camp. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) outlines a process for IEP meetings. Although IEP services are individualized for each child, the IEP process should be routine and

Dreamworks. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act says our national policy is “...ensuring equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency for individuals with disabilities.” It’s NEVER too early to start imagining what that will look like for your child. In this interactive session, you will learn to ask a series of questions about planning outcomes for your child; use specific words and phrases to make “pictures” of the answers; and use this technique to plan IFSP/IEP/IHP goals for and with your child. You will leave with a tool to use again and again to create inspiration, hope, and an action plan for your child’s desired future!
